What is the Youth of the Year?
The Boys & Girls Clubs holds its Club-level Youth of the
Year Competition every spring. Teen members from each Club
are encouraged to fill out an application packet of essays
to enter the competition. Participants are then interviewed
by a panel of community members who select the Youth of the
Year for the Club or Boys & Girls Clubs Organization based
on service to Club and community, academic performance and
contributions to family and spiritual life.
Winners at the local level then proceed onto
the State Youth of the Year Competition. Four State Youth of
the Year from each region are allowed to compete in the
Regional Competition. Regional winners receive a $2,000
scholarship and enter a national competition held in
Washington, DC. The National Youth of
the Year receives an additional $8,000 scholarship and
is installed by the President of the United States.
