Okay, so you still need more information.  Here are some frequently asked questions:

Q: How much of a time commitment is Young Advocates?

A: It is as much as you want to give – anywhere from 1 hour a month or to as much as 3 hours a week – it's entirely up to you!

Q: Is there a cost to join?

A: There is a registration fee of $35 that is used to finance group activities, which include the planning of social events and meetings that are open to all members.  Often these socials are at the best bars and restaurants in town, which provide discounts to our members during the event.

Q:  What are typical events that Young Advocates plans?

A:  Young Advocates plans several events throughout the year, ranging from an Art Auction of actual artwork from the kids to quarterly social events to a silent auction fundraiser.

Q:  Wow, this sounds like fun. Are there opportunities to become more involved in a leadership role?

A:  Yes, there are three main functions that the Young Advocates executes on behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs:

Fundraising/Events:  Plan and coordinate activities designed to attract new members to the Boys & Girls Clubs and raise funds for its programs.

Membership/Awareness:  Recruit people to Young Advocates and orient new members, assisting in the matching of members with the current resource needs of the group.

Marketing:  Provide promotional expertise to raise awareness for various events and activities designed to support the aforementioned functions.  Provide a consistent branding and marketing approach across all events.  Work with local media and companies in promoting events.

Q:  If I am primarily interested in volunteering with the Boys & Girls Clubs, how does Young Advocates help me?

A:  Many of the Young Advocates frequently participate as volunteers at the Clubs.  However, while Young Advocates will plan occasional events that directly involve the kids, such as the Art auction, there is no involvement from a strictly volunteer standpoint.  That said, the ability to raise funds for the youth members of the Boys & Girls Clubs, which Young Advocates provides, plays a critical part in ensuring the continued success and growth of the Clubs and its programs.

Q:  Who runs Young Advocates?

A:  Young Advocates is run by the Young Advocates themselves, as all members are asked to contribute ideas and participate in every event.  There are also two Co-Chairs, as part of the Steering Committee, who provide the leadership and general direction for the Young Advocates.

Q:  How do I know if I qualify as a Young Professional?

A:  Are you between the ages of 25 and 40?  Are you professional in your approach to your work, your community, and your life?  If you answered yes to both, then congratulations, you are a young professional!
